    Big upgrade from cheap TFTs

Posted by NotSure on May 19th 2025

I've been using TFTs in my hobby projects for a few years and have never been impressed with the cheap stuff on Amazon. After making a simple breakout PCB with a 20-pin FFC, switching to these displays was really simple. I use TFT_eSPI and the only thing I had to modify was the user_setup file to accommodate the ST7789VI controller, set the color mode to BGR (not sure why), and invert the colors (not sure why either). Now I have a near-sunlight readable display from an American company for the same cost as the cheap Chinese stuff! I do wish NHD would sell better breakout boards. I know it would be difficult to account for the varying interfaces but it would be way more helpful then just breaking out every pin.
