The chip-on-glass design allows you more flexibility because the IC bonded to the glass and not integrated in a PCB. It runs on a low 3.3V supply, operates between -20° and 70° Celsius, and is RoHS compliant, making it environmentally friendly, even if the environment might not be friendly to it.
