What You’ll Do:

Are you an Electronics Engineer with a passion for designing and troubleshooting electronic systems? As our Applications Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in hardware and firmware to provide comprehensive, customer-centric solutions—from initial product selection and design to hands-on debugging and technical documentation. You'll be the technical bridge between our innovative display products and our customers' groundbreaking applications. In this role, you’ll get to:

Provide Technical Expertise & Customer Support:

  • Serve as a primary technical resource for customers, helping them select the right display products for their specific applications.
  • Deliver responsive technical support via email, phone, and in-person, troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to internal teams, including sales and production.

Lead Product Development & Design:

  • Collaborate with customers to understand their display needs and design or modify displays and circuits to meet their requirements.
  • Lead the design and testing of electronic display solutions, including circuit design, PCB layout, and embedded software development.
  • Perform pre-production sample reviews, develop comprehensive test plans, and conduct product validation.

Manage Product Life Cycle & Quality:

  • Assist with the Engineering Change Process, including documentation, coordination with other teams, building and testing products, and tracking results.
  • Conduct second-sourcing qualification for standard products, including testing and validation.
  • Provide production support at our Elgin facility, assisting with the development, modification, and repair of test fixtures, particularly for software and technical theory.
  • Oversee production testing for customer and RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) requirements, including debugging and troubleshooting design issues.

Create and Maintain Technical Documentation:

  • Develop a wide range of technical resources, including user drawings, schematics, product tutorials, manuals, datasheets, and application notes.
  • Create and maintain demonstration kits to showcase product features and capabilities.
  • Assist with product training for internal teams and partners.

What You’ll Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of experience in a technical role, preferably as an Applications Engineer in the electronics industry.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong C++, C or similar software programming skills.
    • Proficiency with embedded systems, microcontrollers (PIC, ATMEL, ARM, etc.) and peripherals (I²C, SPI, USB, GPIO, SD Card, etc.).
    • Ability to troubleshoot to the component level.
    • Understanding of electronics theory.
    • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
    • Experience in prototype assembly with surface mount components.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
    • Superior attention to detail.
    • Strong organizational skills and self-discipline.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics.
    • Ability to build prototype designs (soldering, breadboard circuits, etc.).
    • Ability to debug and troubleshoot Printed Circuit Boards and electronic systems.
    • Understanding CAD models.
    • Experience with OLED, LCD, LED or VFD technology is a plus.
